Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20, 1964) was an American lawyer, politician, and the current vice president of the United States. She is the first female vice president and is the highest ranking female official in U.S history. A member of Democratic Party, she has previously served as the attorney general of California from 2011 until 2017 and was a United States senator representing California until 2021. Harris was born and raised in Oakland, California. She began her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office prior to being enlisted into the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003, she was the San Francisco district attorney. In 2010, Harris was appointed Attorney General for California. She was reelected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris beat Loretta Martinez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. Harris was a senator who advocated for health care and federal de-scheduling of cannabis. A pathway towards citizenship for migrants who aren't legal. The DREAM Act bans assault weapons and progressive tax reform. National attention was gained for her shrewd examination of Trump administration officials at Senate sessions. The most notable was Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual misconduct.
